It’s been a while since I’ve written anything but rest assured, I’m not going anywhere. This topic has been on my mind for the better part of a year. It’s only a few words long but it packs a powerful punch.

Be like Drake.

If you’re looking to build brand awareness and brand recognition for either yourself or your business, take a little inspiration from the most popular Hip Hop artists of today.  Whether you’re a fan of the genre or not really doesn’t matter, either. What matters is that you take a minute to appreciate what these artists have built and done with the genre in the last decade. When you’re done reading this short blog, I don’t expect you to be a fan of the music, but you will likely respect the hustle.

Admittedly, I have been a fan of hip hop my entire life so I’ll apologize if this comes off as biased but I have to hand it to the artists. They work harder than most, and the market is one of the most saturated markets in the world, so I must tip my hat to those who make it as a standout in their field.

Whether you’re a fan of hip hop or not, I bet you know these names:

Drake. Nicki Minaj. Cardi B. Lil’ Wayne. Post Malone. Kendrick Lamar. Eminem.

To a lesser extent, maybe you’ve heard of Migos, Chance The Rapper, 2 Chains, YG, ASAP Rocky, Logic, G Easy, etc.

I would also wager that depending on your musical taste you may not be able to name the top Rock, R&B, Country or other genre stars and have the same name-recognition effect to the non-genre fans. Whether we are consciously aware of it or not, these artists have become household names.

This is by design. These people are EVERYWHERE. These artists pump out an album every couple years, tour constantly, do features on each other’s songs continually, TV show and movie cameos, and even crossover features on other genres’ songs, too. If James Brown was the hardest worker in show business, then this is the hardest working generation in show business.

Be like Drake.

Drake was everywhere you looked in 2018.  Not only was he the top artist in Spotify and Apple Music, his songs or features were in the Billboard top 10 a record 12 times in 2018! 3 of those were singles from his number one album, Scorpion.

Sure, artists have great years, this isn’t new. What makes Drake interesting is the way he went about it.  He appeared on 35 songs and 11 music videos throughout the year all while being on an international tour and racking up the accolades. He never stopped working. He went from one of the most well-known in his field to one of the most well-known in the world. Respect the hustle.

Brand awareness and brand recognition are crucial to the success of any business or influencer, so if you’re ever short on inspiration just remember:
